Not legally or safely.
The threads on the fittings are very much different to prevent such a thing from occurring.

You - may - be able to swap a Oxygen bottle/cylinger/tank for a CO2 tank at AirGas or Purity. I say may, as it would have to be a standard welding O2 tank for them to make the swap. Medical O2 bottles are of use only for medical supply companies and users.

What about a tank that was used to fill up balloons?

If it was an industrial tank, like at the dollar stores that fill balloons, you could use it as a swap at AirGas or Purity.
If its one of those tanks that comes in a box with fifty balloons, it is valueless when empty. Those are low pressure vessels which would explode if taken to the 800psi - 1000psi a CO2 tank usually gets to indoors.

Here is a 20# tank in Waterford for $60.00

Two 20# tanks for $100.00 in Southfield

I can't tell what gasses they are all for, but he says CO2
There are five. A 5#, a 10#, two 20#, and a 50#

I was going to post what ever I found in your area, but there isn't anything in the last months worth of Champagne listings. Stuff either sold fast or isn't being offered.
Interesting.

Sean, are you looking for tank, regulator, or both?

This regulator has gotten decent, but not raving, reviews.

Someone in your racing circuit has got to have a spare CO2 tank left over from something. Or an Argon/CO2 mix tank that could be swapped at AirGas or Purity.

I would not buy that Co2 regulater. Not worth the money.

That is a nice example of a 20# CO2 cylinder, at a decent price.
The tanks used in the beverage industry often have the carrying handles. You won't always get one back with a handle if you swap tanks at Air Gas or Purity.

I'm window shopping. :) I'd probably get a 5# or 10# if I could find one in date at a low price. I saw some new aluminum 5# cylinders on google for $50. Doesn't seem too expensive to get one that looks nice, but I'd have to find a place to fill it rather than swap it.

I used Google to search on

Plymouth mi fire extinguisher

and got several hits within fifteen miles.

Now, as the owner of a nice shinny aluminum tank that "has" to be refilled, I don't actually look at it very often. It's hidden in the stand. I've swapped tanks and refilled tanks and to tell the truth I care more about the cost than I do the appearance. 20# beverage CO2 tanks are often stainless steel.

By the way, I did a Google search for 5# aluminum CO2 and found a $49.99 tank listed, but clicking on the link shows the cost to be $69.99 plus shipping.

Yea, I'm not looking seriously right now. Just browsing around. Not sure what I want to do yet because I have to figure out my stand. I think I'm going to enclose it somehow. If I do, then the look of the tank won't matter.

But anyway, sorry for the thread hijack... :)
