I know they are only meant to help people find cheap stuff, but we are getting a little overboard spamming the site with these ads... Could it be possible to just start one thread for ALL craigslist ads rather than one thread for each ad you come across.

My suggestion... Create a pinned craigslist ad thread and do away with the craigslist forum. Don, I nominate you to start off the new "All Inclusive" Craiglist only!!!! pinned thread.

P.S. we need more pics of peoples tanks....

That sounds like a good idea. Also, I think l'll post less as most of us already have our full share of tanks and I've demonstrated that bargains are to be had if one looks for them.

People, if you are looking for something specific and can't find it, ask.

Moderators, please purge all but the last day or two of the Craig's list ads. If the items haven't sold by now, no one here wanted them.

One way to track these things is to make a Yahoo! Pipe http://pipes.yahoo.com/

I have some that I used to use to track postings on craigslist. They can be found (and modified) here: http://pipes.yahoo.com/nickstaroba

Just to clarify, I don't think anyone was really out of line or anything.. I think Chad just wanted to nip it in the bud before things got really out of hand.

Posting CL deals is fine and dandy... if it's a great deal, or something really wacky or whatever... just posting ALL craigslist ads would be too much.

I know that all the people posting ads have good intentions and are trying to help others find great deals.

Ohhhhhhhh boy, where to start on this one..........I really have to take polite issue with several things on this.

First, the use of the word "spamming". That word refers to persons loading up a site or email inbox with adverts and email adverts, with the intention of slowing or bringing the site down. That is not what is being done, so pleeeeeease find another word to use.

Second, any of the subject headings on a site are just like a TV or radio---if you don't want to watch or listen (or read), use the off switch, or in this case, you don't have to read them. I have no interest in "Paludariums", I don't use CO2, and I don't use "Group Buys" or attend "Meetings" (because I live far from "everyone"), but I don't want the numbers of those postings limited. I do think it's great those postings are there---for those who can make use of them.

What is the definition of "too many" postings? Complaints about "Craigslist Ads" (with 10 pages) and their age, but not about "Swap-&-Shop" (38 pages, with many very old ads from some guy named 'Neanderthal'), the "Pub" (27 pages), "Wanted-To-Buy" (13 pages), and the "Welcome" wagon (7 pages)? Hmmmmmmmmm (to all of these---not just the "Welcome" page).

And, how many days of listings are to be limit? Two days? Do members check this site every day, much less every two?

Third, do "most" of us really have our "full share" of tanks and stuff? Does everyone, or even most everyone, on this site know everyone else so well that they could decide this for all of us? (Until I have my 100' x 200' x 3 story fish room, I do not have my stinkin' full share!!!).

Really, why are the craigslist postings a problem? If you have the stuff you need, then don't read those ads---but you could still post, for the fun of helping others. But do not take away, or discourage the use of, the craigslist postings for those who are getting use out of them.

I was "just sayin"... Mark, please, my suggestion was just to post ads in a single thread rather than starting new threads. It's just about consolidation and neatness of the forum. It's definitely NOT about singling people out and tying the hands of those who post mass amounts of aquarium craigslist postings that plug up the new content page. A mere "broom swept" mentality and methodology of keeping a forum tidy.

I read every thread posted pretty much every day, my slight levels of OCD make me hate those little orange boxes, so I must at least open every page...

and really, unless it's a really amazing deal or something oddball, if people need a tank that bad, they can look themselves...

also:
http://www.urbandict...p?term=spamming

entry number one, though it's a little insensitive, is the best definition for spamming, has nothing to do with malicious intent...

I agree. One thread to keep the new content window tidy! I used to check the site everyday.

The diarrhea posting will run it's course.

This type of posting usually quiets on it's own.

I do not have the time to view Craigslist , so I like to see a few Hundred...now and then.

Sorry Chadly, I had to respond here to your PM. Enough people were allowed to respond to my posting, that it just would not have been fair to myself to respond thru a private message.

Chadly, you did not step on my toes, not at all. I wear size 13 Quadruple E shoes, so it's hard for anyone to step on my toes. I was only trying to join in the conversation and give my opinion---to what you called a "suggestion". I tried to show that I was not stepped on by deliberately being a jokester in at least two spots (see "Neanderthal", and "100' x 200' x 3 story fish room"!).

Howeverrrrrrr..........other people do seem to have taken my Craigslist postings in negative ways that you did not.

If you look at Greg Bush's response today, he gives a link to an urban dictionary (not a real one), and specifies Definition #1, claiming it has nothing to do with malicious intent, and this seems to be what he thinks I am guilty of: "...posting useless crap on forums over and over". Sounds like malicious activity to me. Chadly, did I post useless crap? Perhaps these ads are "useless crap" to these few who do not want to see them, but are they useless crap to the majority of the group? I think I've been Flamed, or maybe Singed, but not Cauterized.

Greg Bush also said ".....if people need a tank that bad, they can look for themselves"---OK then, let's just eliminate the Craigslist Posting section of the site. But, I remember when it was added, and I thought it was there to show people listings that they may not have time to look for themselves. To be helpful. To be nice. It is certainly not intended to tick off people who could just refrain from reading them. Chadly, I ask this very, very jokingly---does Greg own, or work at, a tropical fish store that loses business every time someone buys something from Craigslist, or from our sites own Swap-&-Shop? If he does, that's a conflict of interest---does he need to recuse himself like a Supreme Court Justice? And, can he use this site as therapy to work on his OCD of reading every post? ......The Wizard of OZ said "Ignore that posting behind the orange box!!"

Dbosman responded today ".....and a Moderator asked us to do it this way"---no, Chadly, you said it was a suggestion, as if you were looking for other peoples opinions. So, I gave mine, but it was a dissenting opinion, so people got upset---and for damn good reason (no, not really).

"Swap-&-Shop" has 38 pages of listings, and should have the same complaint as Craigslist, but doesn't. Why not? Conflict of interest? No self-control? If the current method of posting is not broken in Swap-&-Shop, then it's not broken in Craigslist!!!!

From the Forum Rules I have to quote "Discussion topics are the driving force behind any forum". Well, maybe not discussions with differing opinions. Another Rule quote "We must take into consideration the time, effort and level of dedication each member has put into this hobby". Writing this response is beginning to make me wonder if the opinions of only a small number of people actually count for anything. And, that only the subjects that a certain few people are interested in are the ones that matter.

Another teeny, tiny problem. The topic was locked out, but only after the same people had a chance to counter-respond to my first opinion post. I was not allowed to respond a second time, as they were allowed. So, I had to respond here, in the wrong place (but, where someone else had put another counter-response to my first post).

And, anyone who might agree with me is locked out. Not everyone looks at this site every day, or even every week. I know, because I have talked with people about that in the past.

well if ya can't reply to me directly, but only by talking to Chadly, here's the answer for him, yes I work at a store, no it's not conflict of interest, in fact when people ask how much we buy used tanks for and get angry about our policies, I tell them they can make more themselves selling on craigslist, but it'll take them time and effort...

they usually sell to us...

as far as my comment on the UD, which is as much a dictionary as wikipedia is a reference site... I said the definition was insensitive... meaning it was written badly, but the act of spamming has nothing to do with malicious intent, ie. in response to you complaining about our "misuse" of the word because you thought it had something to do with "with the intention of slowing or bringing the site down."

there's my rebuttal

also, because I feel like being a dick
I can use colors too YAY!

Wow, this is ridiculous..... Really?? I don't see a problem with making one craigslist thread. Is it so hard to just move on. Sheesh. I think the general consensus is that all the regular posters, the day by day members agree with one thread. I wish I had the time you wasted typing up all that b.s. Mark13. Move on dude, its not that big of a problem. http://www.miapg.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif
